At the Georgia Cyber Innovation & Training Center, we’re proud to support Augusta University students as they build the skills, confidence and real-world experience needed to succeed in today’s cybersecurity workforce in Georgia.

In this blog series, we’re spotlighting Augusta University cybersecurity students and graduates who trained at the Georgia Cyber Innovation & Training Center, sharing their career journeys, lessons learned and where their paths have taken them after graduation.

Cameron Cunningham Cybersecurity Engineering Student at Augusta University - Georgia Cyber Innovation & Training Center

Cameron Cunningham graduated from Augusta University in Spring 2025 with a degree in Cybersecurity Engineering and a minor in Physics. She remembers her time at the Georgia Cyber Center as both energizing and grounding.

“The classes were wonderful. It was good to have a space where I was surrounded by people who shared the same passions and interests,” she said. “I also enjoyed getting to spend time up in the cloud overlooking the river between classes. It was a great way to relax.”

That sense of belonging gave her space to focus, connect with others and grow. Cameron Cunningham - AU Grad - and Augustus at Georgia Cyber Center

During her time as a student, Cameron pursued opportunities that expanded her experience beyond the classroom. She worked as an Undergraduate Researcher in the CURS Summer Scholars Program and served as an Engineering Intern with Augusta Utilities and the Physics Department. These roles helped her build technical skills, confidence and real world experience.

“It gave me experience working in a team. I was working not only in my field but new fields as well which gave me a wide range of experiences,” she said. “These experiences helped me put what I learned in class into the real world and improved my self confidence.”

She also credits mentors who helped her along the way. Support and encouragement from leaders like Eric Toler and Tony Lawrence played an important role in helping her navigate her employment search and prepare for the next step.

Today, Cameron works as an AI Developer and Trainer and also as an English Instructor. She felt well prepared to step into both roles thanks to the foundation she built during her time as a student.

“The skills I learned at AU helped set me up for success. Working in a team, proactively solving problems and thinking outside the box all helped greatly,” she said.

Her internship and research experiences gave her an edge by helping her develop adaptability, collaboration skills and confidence in professional environments.

Looking ahead, Cameron hopes to one day return to the Georgia Cyber Center, this time as a professional.

In five years, she sees herself working at the Georgia Cyber Innovation & Training Center and continuing to grow her career in the same place that helped launch it.

Outside of her academic and professional work, Cameron brings a unique background and strong leadership experience. She grew up in Wiesbaden and is bilingual in German and English. She also served as assistant and general manager of Augusta University’s Esports program and competed on the Sim Team.

Cameron’s story reflects what is possible when students are supported, challenged and given opportunities to grow.
