Georgia is leading the nation in cybersecurity education, and the Georgia Cyber Innovation & Training Center (GCITC) is ensuring those efforts remain aligned with today’s fast-evolving workforce needs. From June 1–5, GCITC will host its first Teacher Cyber Camp, a five-day professional development program for CTAE and all IT-related K-12 teachers at both public and private schools, focused on strengthening K–12 cybersecurity curriculum across Georgia.
By bringing educators and working cybersecurity professionals together, Teacher Cyber Camp helps close the gap between classroom instruction and real-world industry expectations.
Aligning K–12 Cybersecurity Education With Workforce Needs
As technology and entry-level certification requirements continue to evolve, classroom curriculum can struggle to keep pace. While Georgia has built strong cybersecurity and IT education pathways, rapid industry change can create gaps between what students learn and what employers require.
Teacher Cyber Camp directly addresses this challenge by pairing IT-related teachers with current cybersecurity professionals to co-develop practical, certification-aligned lessons and hands-on labs.
“Georgia built a strong cybersecurity pipeline, and now the work is keeping it current,” said Danny Etheredge, GCITC’s Director of Training & Workforce Development. “By putting teachers and industry experts in the same room, we are ensuring students are learning the skills employers need today.”
What Teachers Will Gain From Teacher Cyber Camp
During this immersive five-day professional development experience, educators will:
-
Participate in hands-on cybersecurity training and labs
-
Collaborate with industry professionals and subject matter experts
-
Develop ready-to-teach lessons and classroom implementation plans
-
Align curriculum with current workforce skills and certifications
Each participating teacher reaches dozens to hundreds of students each year, creating long-term impact across Georgia schools.
Opportunities for IT and CTAE Teachers, Industry Professionals and Sponsors
GCITC is currently inviting all IT-related K-12 public and private teachers across Georgia to apply for our Teacher Cyber Camp and enhance their cybersecurity instruction with real-world content.
We are also seeking cybersecurity professionals to serve as mentors, panelists and lab coaches, sharing current industry practices with educators.
To keep the program free or low-cost for teachers and expand participation statewide, corporate sponsors and community partners are encouraged to support the initiative.
“Sponsor support allows us to remove financial barriers for teachers while expanding the number of classrooms we reach,” Etheredge said. “This is a direct investment in Georgia’s cybersecurity workforce.”
Strengthening Georgia’s Cybersecurity Workforce Pipeline
The Teacher Cyber Camp is part of GCITC’s broader mission to advance cybersecurity education, workforce development and industry collaboration throughout Georgia.
By aligning K–12 education with real-world workforce needs, GCITC is helping prepare the next generation of cybersecurity professionals for success in high-demand careers.
