Last week, our Director of Training and Workforce Development, Danny Etheredge, joined the Morning Mix Director of Training and Workforce,Danny Etheredge, in interview on the Morning Mix to talk about something we care deeply about at the Georgia Cyber Center at Augusta University. How do we make sure the next generation is ready for careers in cybersecurity?

The answer starts with teachers.

In the interview on WRDW-TV, Danny shared how our upcoming Teacher Cyber Camp is designed to give educators the tools, confidence and real world insight they need to bring cybersecurity into their classrooms in meaningful ways.

Why Teacher Cyber Camp Matters

Cyber threats are growing more complex every day, and the demand for skilled professionals continues to rise. But before students ever consider a career in cybersecurity, they need exposure. They need someone to spark that interest. K-12 teacher helping student with cybersecurity activity

That someone is often a teacher.

Teacher Cyber Camp, happening June 1 – 5 at the Georgia Cyber Center, is built to support CTAE and IT educators across Georgia. It is a hands on, collaborative experience that connects teachers with industry professionals so they can take what they learn straight back to their classrooms.

As Danny shared during the interview, this is about more than professional development. It is about equipping teachers with current, relevant skills that align with what employers actually need.

Teachers can register to attend here.

From One Classroom to Thousands of Students

One of the most powerful parts of this program is its ripple effect.

When you invest in a teacher, you are not just reaching one classroom. You are reaching every student they will teach this year and in the years ahead.

During Teacher Cyber Camp, educators work side by side with cybersecurity professionals to build lesson plans, explore real world scenarios and better understand the skills students need to succeed in today’s workforce.

That impact multiplies quickly across school districts, communities and eventually into Georgia’s workforce pipeline.

Removing Barriers and Expanding Access

Another key message Danny shared on Morning Mix is simple but important. This opportunity is free for teachers. Danny Etheredge Director at Georgia Cyber Center on WRDW's Morning Mix sharing about upcoming Teacher professional development

By removing financial barriers, we are able to open the door to more educators from both public and private schools across the state. That means more students gaining access to high quality cybersecurity education, no matter where they live.

It also means we can continue building a stronger, more connected pipeline from the classroom to career.

A Community Effort

Programs like Teacher Cyber Camp do not happen in isolation.

They are made possible through collaboration with industry professionals, community partners, and sponsors who believe in investing in the future workforce. Their involvement ensures that what teachers learn is not just theoretical but grounded in real world experience. We are still looking for industry professionals and sponsors to join this worthy cause. Please contact us if interested.

Looking Ahead

At the Georgia Cyber Center, our work does not stop when students leave for break or when the headlines shift elsewhere. Behind the scenes, we are always working to strengthen the connection between education and industry.

Teacher Cyber Camp is one more way we are doing that.

And as Danny shared on Morning Mix, the goal is clear. Give teachers what they need so they can give students a pathway into one of the fastest growing fields in the country.

Because when teachers are equipped, students are empowered. And that is where real impact begins.
